Stepone Portfolio spreadsheet
Hi
I am transferring my historical records to this spreadsheet. I was lucky enough to inherit some shares a while ago.
How should I record them? Thus far I have recorded them as a purchase on the day they were inherited because it provides some sort of benchmark however sometimes I feel that this an unduly harsh way of recording my good fortune.
Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

Re: Stepone Portfolio spreadsheet
Hello,
I was in this position a few years ago.
My view was that what mattered to me was the date and then value, that would apply should I need to calculate the gain for Capital Gains tax purposes when they are later sold.
There are three possible dates that could apply.
- Date of the death of the person leaving the shares
- Date that Probate was granted on that person's estate
- Date that the shares were recorded as transferred to my name
The HMRC summary information about CGT and inherited shares says the date of death applies, so that is what I used.
https://www.gov.uk/tax-property-money-s ... and-shares
I have subsequently sold some of them and used this value when computing my CGT liability and included the calculations in my Tax Return.

Just another naive question.
How does one record DRIP. As buy or dividend and buy?

Re: Stepone Portfolio spreadsheet
From a tax point of view it is a dividend and then an investment of that amount of cash in more shares
The dividend will be liable to income tax and the cost of the additional investment will then increase your acquisition cost of the total holding for capital gains tax purposes.

What do you mean by "does not seem to accept"

Re: Stepone Portfolio spreadsheet
The trades are entered as CNA. The cell changes it to CAN.CAN is entered on the current sheet. No current price is forthcoming when 'get prices' is activated.
The problem is that the cell in the trade sheet does not accept CNA .

This is the auto-correct 'feature' of Excel getting in the way.Bena48 wrote:

Go to -
Tools -> AutoCorrect
Find the entry that says 'Replace: cna With: can'
Delete it.

Hi
Are there plans to up date this spreadsheet? It is showing similar errors to Hyptus.

Yes, it will definately be fixed. It'll just take time due to HYPTUSS issues and non-LMF things that are taking up my timeBena48 wrote:Hi

Hi
Hate to nag but is there a time line for the repair of this sheet. I have a number of divi's queuing up to be recorded.

Don't worry about naggingBena48 wrote:Hi

It's now been fixed. See https://www.lemonfool.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=8924
Sorry about the delay. We found a strange problem with Yahoo, and I've been away for the past week. StepOne has confirmed that the new version now appears to work OK, and if he's happy, I'm happy
