They've found Endurance

Endurance: Shackleton's lost ship is found in Antarctic

Scientists have found and filmed one of the greatest ever undiscovered shipwrecks 107 years after it sank.

Leaves me speechless. Almost.

I have always had a fascination with the golden age of Antarctic/Arctic exploration. In particular, the expedition that saw the demise of Shackleton's ship is beyond normal comprehension.

Kinda spooky, that rear deck, eh? As if the helmsman might just return at any moment to top up the ice in his whisky ;)

The wreck is protected as a Historic Site and Monument under the Antarctic Treaty, ensuring that whilst the wreck is being surveyed and filmed it will not be touched or disturbed in any way, according to the Falklands Maritime Heritage Trust. No physical artefacts have therefore been brought to the surface.

At 10,000 feet, in that kind of water, the challenges of getting anything much off it will be considerable. Mind you, I gather that a US court has given permission for the salvage of the radio equipment from the Titanic, which is 12,600 feet. (And carrying more than a thousand bodies. :? )

I also gather that there are people on Google asking whether they'd need official permission to scuba dive the Titanic wreck?

Anyone who likes this sort of thing will probably enjoy "Against the Ice " on Netflix. Based on true story of a 1907 Danish expedition to Greenland.
