Viceroy's House

4/10. Period drama that has an interesting story to tell, but is both pedestrian and melodramatic.

This is about the period when Mountbatten arrived as Viceroy to give India its independence, and ending up partioning India into 2 states - India & Pakistan. Nice to look at, but everything is pretty superficial, and a clumsy love story is introduced to parallel the story of India being pulled apart. There's also a bit of rewriting of history to introduce an extra element of drama. All the characters are pretty sketchily written, but at least (unlike Gandhi the movie) all the main Indian roles are played by Indians.
