Widely acknowledged as one of the best pop songs ever made.

And yet . . .

It was originally called Starlight.

Still a great song. :)

Hmmm not by me.

I'd nominate Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen for that.

Ah come on... HYD did say "one of the best".

Plenty of space for other middle of the road entries - like "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep" ;)

Also "Shaddup You Face" by Joe Dolce. A noticeably better pop song than Thriller, IMHO. Disgraced himself by keeping "Vienna" off the number one slot however...

First time I've seen Joe Dolce described as "Disgraced" when being compared to Michael Jackson.

Never did like Jackson. Used to hear a song on the radio and think, “I wonder who this bird is. Don’t recognise the voice.” And it would turn out to be Wacko Jacko. A bit like Jimmy Savile, he got away with it.

Written by "probably" Cleethorpes' biggest export apart from fishing.

Met him quite a few times when he was keyboard player/songwriter with Heatwave whose lead singer, Johnny Wilder, also died too young. Really nice unassuming guy who hated the limelight and was more than happy to be the writer of the songs rather than the performer of them. Went to live in a castle in Germany once the big royalties started to roll in.
