I am a poor judge of this sort of stuff but I found it less than gripping last evening. A lot of elderly mostly ex Army officers sounding off about the shortcomings of the strategy, particularly the uptight Sir Michael Rose. the others seemed on the whole a much more relaxed lot. What was his gripe?

"What was his gripe?" - I think he covered those points well. Poor planning, poor tactics, extra unnecessary injury and deaths.

"A lot of elderly mostly ex Army officers" - They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning. We will remember them! The youngsters are now getting on, it unfortunate that age does that. You should see the Battle of Britain people.

I found it quite interesting, especially the personal stories and the context at the time. There are other documentaries that cover different aspects.

I haven't watched the documentary, but I read a review in the Telegraph. Apparently this is the first time Sir Michael Rose has spoken on the subject, and I am led to believe a lot of people were very interested in his unparalleled insight.

Yes he did. He was called a bloody old fool or some such uncompromising language which I thought was a bit of a shame since he could not answer the charge.
