A Film to watch tonight
Any recommendations? We have already seen the new James Bond and most of the new romcoms.
The Mrs doesn’t like horrors so that is no good but a Sci-Fi is fine.
Thanks all,
HYD

If you have Netflix "Don't Look Up" is worth a watch.

Netflix has "Orbiter 9", a Spanish science fiction-romance. A young woman is the only human left alive on a spaceship travelling to a distant colony. She has been raised by robots from a very young age (after her parents died en route) and has never seen another human in person.
One day the ship has a serious malfunction and a way station sends a hunky repairman out to fix the problem...

Just watched Tomorrow War with Chris Pratt from Guardians of the Galaxy. Brain out of gear relax kind of film.
I enjoyed it for what it was.
Amazon Prime (free trial).

If you haven't seen "Pig" watch "Pig"
- it wasn't what I expected and probably my movie of the year

I saw 'Parasite' (South Korea oscar winner) the other night and thought it was a brilliant black comedy. A bit of gore in it but not horror, as such.

(On Prime)
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Care_a_Lot
"I Care a Lot is a 2020 American black comedy thriller film written and directed by J Blakeson. The film stars Rosamund Pike, Peter Dinklage, Eiza González, Chris Messina, Macon Blair, Alicia Witt, and Damian Young, with Isiah Whitlock Jr. and Dianne Wiest. The film follows a con woman who makes a living as a court-appointed guardian, seizing the assets of vulnerable elderly people, only for her to get mixed up with a dangerous gangster."
Both myself and Mrs M enjoyed this. A good ending ( and somewhat unexpected twist).

Seconded on "I Care A lot". In the middle of "Don't look up". Still not sure if its just one big wind up on American stupidity. Oh, I forgot, I did see the end, so stupid, I forgot.

Re: A Film to watch tonight
Well, if you want a classic good 'un and don't mind the ads, there's Shirley Valentine on 5 and The Terminal on Great! Movies (freeview 33), both at 9pm.
Personally I'm up for the 2018 version of A Star is Born, also at 9pm on BBC1. I'm curious to see how Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper measure up against Streisand & Kristofferson ... or at least my memory of them!![Wink ;)](./images/smilies/icon_e_wink.gif)

Well I thought it , and they, were really pretty good. But I wasn't aware it was a remake and so I've never seen the original.mc2fool wrote: Personally I'm up for the 2018 version of A Star is Born, also at 9pm on BBC1. There are at least 4 English language versions.doug2500 wrote:Well I thought it , and they, were really pretty good. It's a remake of a remake of a remake of the original! (And there's also a Bollywood version.)doug2500 wrote:Well I thought it , and they, were really pretty good. 1937 Janet Gaynor & Frederick March. I don't think I've ever seen this one
1954 Judy Garland & James Mason. Garland is absolutely fantastic, despite, paradoxically, being greatly affected by her own addictions at the time.
1976 Barbra Streisand & Kris Kristofferson. An unlikely combination that worked really really well.
2018 Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper. Yeah, not bad, but probably my least favourite of the three I've seen.
The end credits of the 2018 version say it's based on the 1954 and 1976 screenplays.
I must admit though, I'd forgotten what a miserable story it is!

Re: A Film to watch tonight
Enjoyed Don't Look Up, though mainly for the acting. Meryl Streep and Mark Rylance's acting was very enjoyable. Cate Blanchett was cast a little out of type (perhaps) and nailed it.nimnarb wrote:Seconded on "I Care A lot". In the middle of "Don't look up". "Wildlife" on BBC iplayer is worth watching. With Jake Gyllenhaal and Carey Mulligan. "Sully" on Netflix is a reliable Tom Hanks film.

Just saw for probably the 20th time in my lifetime Great Expectations on iPlayer. As memorable now as it was 60 years ago.
