I've just finished listening to the best podcast I've ever heard, the remarkable history of Colditz by Ben Macintyre - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/series/m001f4wc
It's a fantastic story, and delivered to perfection by Samuel West.

Just listened to it too.
As a man of a certain age I remember being gripped by the BBC series with Bernard Hepton as the commandant but the truth is stranger and more interesting than the fiction to me.

I must admit to being somewhat shocked by the alternative truth of Douglas Bader, having been brought up with the "Reach for the Sky" story.

My late Father was in the RAF until he was 40, having joined as a schoolboy entrant at 16 years of age. He met Bader. Not just a hand shake I might add. Now my Dad, bless him never really spoke of anyone. I recall asking him about his thoughts on Bader. I got the impression he wasn't best impressed by the man.redsturgeon wrote:I must admit to being somewhat shocked by the alternative truth of Douglas Bader, having been brought up with the "Reach for the Sky" story.
