Astrid

Post by Arborbridge »

I look forward to Fridays now to watch Astrid - Murder in Paris. I know, that's sad, but it is particulraly good.

Astrid, the cynic might say, is just another box tick, but to educate us about autism. However, it is really well acted and of course, Astrid's slightly different take on life and perfect (too perfect!) photo-recall helps her solve the crimes. She's into puzzles, and each week an episode is built round a type of puzzle, as far as I can see, and the key to solving the puzzle helps solve the murder.

As ever, the fascination is in the relationships - not unlike our all time favourite, Saga, in the Bridge.
Remarkable is the likeness between the adult Astrid and her younger self in the flashbacks - both actresses having studied one other to replicate the mannerisms.

Anyone else watching?

I'm sad. Astrid has finished and strangely, I miss her on a friday night. I miss her odd quirky behaviour and unusual approach to life - I found she grew on me until I found "astrid-isms" were creeping into conversation between my wife and I.

Yes, I know, we must get out more and socialise!

Totally agree Arb, most enjoyable series I have seen in ages.

Sounds interesting, thanks for the recommendation.

Featuring an Asperger as a police consultant, is not a new concept. IIRC it started with series Monk back in the 90s. Anyone remember that?

I don't know that one, but I guess there's nothing new under the sun!
The way Sarah Mortensen acted in Astrid was extraordinary - particularly in the parts of the final story where she acts out pure terror but in absolute silence, and controls her emotions. I'm not sure I've ever seen anything quite like it.

The nearest character in recent years to Astrid was Saga in the Bridge - different, but with some parallels, and more (unintentional) hunour.
