CODA, hands down and because of this diversity trip we are on, quite rightly so.

Mentioned highly favourably Power of the Dog on this Board last December (not to universal acclaim!) and had a fun £10 bet at 7/1. Obviously is going to win.

https://www.lemonfool.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=32563 - you want the betting slip? - just look at Betfair historical price trend.

Seems surprisingly "meh!" list for best picture this year
- normally there's a few that I think "oh yeah must see that" but really I'm not that bothered by at least half of them
- I've only added "Drive My Car" and "Nightmare Alley" to my list of things to see... oh and "The Lost Daughter" I suppose (Coleman & Buckley must be worth the admission)

Can't see them giving it to "CODA" after the "Sound of Metal" - too thematically similar if both excellent and very different movies

Which makes it a toss up in my book between "Belfast" and "The Power of the Dog": and that could fall either way depending on the mood they're in

I enjoyed Belfast more... possilby because I'd recently been on a Western binge and "The Power of the Dog" didn't stand out (vs The Sisters Brothers, Bone Tomahawk, Slow West)

So I'm going to say Belfast will get it because there's a lot of misty eyed 'muricans who get to vote

If Nicole gets anything I will be very sad because I don't thing we should be encouraging "acting" that can be done by emoji:  :?

"Pig" should be sweeping the board

:(

You still sure about that? I see a good chance for best supporting actor plus another little golden statue in the cards. As for no chance, well there is always a chance. One more week and we will know.

Ive been underwhelmed by Oscar nominations previously. Almost a dont bother watching this list. Hopefully this year is different.

Ive Seen Dune, King Richard and Nightmare Alley.

I never really got to be a Dune fanboy and didnt really rate this much more than average. I looked forward to King Richard having seen trailers in the cinema. It was above average but not as good as I was expecting. I watched Nightmare Alley in two halves. It was quite slow and the Boss didnt like it. I only watched the second half on my own to see what the outcome was. I describe it more like a bad journey with a nice destination.

Denzel Washington is brilliant, Id give him the Oscar without even looking at what he done. I didnt fancy this film though and have not even tried to see it, so what does that say. Maybe its because I want to be entertained by a film rather than be a critic.

Im looking to see CODA after reading many positive comments, some of which were on here.

An incredibly weak list with nothing that stands out as exceptional, but then there has not been anything exceptional in the cinemas for the last year.

Huge support for CODA (got that completely wrong) - decided to lay off my bet on PotD at 2.24 - so nice green book.

Jane Campion though is a cert for best director!
