RAVP are up 2% today, and the yield is heading towards single figures.

No other Preference Shares went up by 2% today. Could be a sign of Market confidence?

RE.B up 2.5% today. I have not check anything else as the first pref I checked contradicted your statement.

Waiting for my charcol to heat up so had a quick look. Using 20th Feb as the start point, the day markets started the Covid tumble, it seems RE.B and RAVP have both underperformed NWBD, LLPC and ELLA. Maybe the market is recognising that and this is just a bit of catch up, but it certainly isn't out performance IMHO.

Wizard,
Perhaps I should have written that few other Prefs. went up by 2% today. As for RE.B, I doubt if many people have got the nerve to invest in these shares, and RAVP certainly out performs NWBD, LLPC and ELLA when it comes to yield.

Luni never applied his Zones concept to Prefs & Bonds. I wonder where one would draw the boundaries. I'm not sure that Goldilocks ever visited Russia.

It always has and for good reason, there is greater risk.

Disclosure: I hold RAVP, RE.B and not LLPC but I do hold LLPD

Thou art a man of bottle. Dare I ask how much you paid for RE.B?

He was and is Luniversal, a long-time luminary of the HYP Board, and the IT board where he coined the B7 & B8.

The Goldilocks concept came about in trying to pick a 'sweet spot' for HYP investment, based on the yield relative to the FTSE100, where a share in the range 110% - 150% was deemed to be in the optimal (Goldilocks) zone.

I suppose one might devise a similar system for Fixed Interest, given that the higher the yield the greater the risk, but one would need a benchmark.
A passing thought.

Used to hold RAVP, RAVC, RE.B, but bottled out.

Sorry missed this question. I am deeply underwater with them, having bought them at round about par many years ago. It looked like they were pulling back just before the COVID hit on the oil price, but it may be a very long time before they recover now. Only a small holding fortunately at about a third of my RAVP exposure based on purchase price. So brave enough to hold on in there, but not to buy more and average down.

Any chance that holders of RAVP could be affected by Russian reprisals for the recent UK implementation of the Magnitsky Act?

Re: RAVP - Invesco Buyout ?

Post by PrefInvestor »

Been a while since I've been back here. I note that the RAVP share price has recovered significantly since I baled out at 100p some while back. One of my main concerns was how they were going to finance the Invesco share buyout - and I cant find any news on that. Anyone know whats happening if anything ?. They are still the biggest shareholder by a large margin by the look of it.

Thanks for the quick reply. However the link didn’t really provide much news on the Invesco buyout situation, only that the end date on their buyout deal with Invesco has now passed. RAVP has been doing well though so investors must feel confident. I must say being out ATM I feel inclined to wait for an update on what I see as an important issue.

With the current yield at 11%, and the oil price over $50 per barrel, RAVP are looking an attractive proposition.
