But what is the one thing YOU would do this Sunday in York?

It would be in the afternoon, but Choral Evensong in the Minster would be a must for me.

And me! As it is (I checked already) there is no sung evensong this Sunday - but there is a remembrance service with Faure's requiem at 1600 - so that is a tick

A somewhat bizarre suggestion - Barnitts hardware store !

A maze of a store with a choice of 15 coffee makers, 23 toasters or 100+ lightbulbs,or you can buy an individual screw or nut & bolt.

Collier street adjacent The Shambles ( which you will of course be visiting, if only for the Harry Potter shop )

York is a mecca for beer and has quite a large craft beer scene. Can't give any up to date recommendations unfortunately, it is twenty years or more since I lived there.

i've good recommendations for beer as the priority they probably aren;t the sort fo places that have sport T^Vs though.

So I was after a suggestioin for the rugby primarily - but the beer still has to be drinkable! No Greene King! (in York.. ?)

I'll check York out next week, will do a bit of walking first, see the sights, then a beer or two. I use Ratebeer to do pub research, usually top 5 places already gives nice enough variety. Micro pubs will be top priority.

JMN2 - We really like Pivni, especially for craft, and House of trembling Madness was good too. The pie and mash for a tenner looked good tho we didn't indulge as we'd already eaten. Upstairs where the pub is is very very busy on a Friday and saturday night so be warned you'll need to queue or got elsewhere! The pub non York station was good for ale too - really good.

The food market was absolutely excellent for food - lots of choice at good prices - £7 would likely get you full

When in York I always ended up in the Phoenix , small friendly and good beer.

Bristol, first choice The Three Tuns or the Robin Hood, but it has been a few years...

Canterbury, without doubt the best beers and best choice is at the New Inn, a proper old fashioned friendly boozer, usually 5/6 real ales on, all in superb condition, was there last week.

Not the main reason anymore if I'm by myself. A bit of walking, sights, a book, a pub, eat, go to hotel before it gets late and busy.

The Wetherspoons next to the Travelodge, The Postern Gate ? will give you a better breakfast than the Travelodge. Reasonable selection of beers for a nightcap last time I was there.
