On Tuesday I've got to pop down to wincanton to collect something. Target than just drive there and straight back... What's wincanton like? Charity shops to browse in? Cracking cafe for coffee? Belting pub for a pint? Wonderful restaurant for lunch? Exceptional walk locally?
Local museum?

Cheers!

Wincanton is twinned with Ankh-Morpork. Really...

(Only memory I have is Wincanton Transport milk tankers)

Dunno about Wincanton (let us know!), but Mere is close by and quite nice. There's a brush museum there if you have OCD tendencies.

Wincanton is a pit stop on the A303. Famous mainly for the eponymous distribution company. If you have a few hours to spare, consider the Fleet Air Arm Museum just down the road at Yeovilton. (Well actually it's 13 miles, but straight down the A303, that won't take you long.) Cracking exhibition.

Or the Haynes Motor Museum at Sparkford. Also recommended.

I did some work at Wincanton in the 1980s. Then the main business in town was Cow & Gate, Unigate by then. The factory closed as a result of our efforts soon after.

To my mind the Motor Museum is the best place to go, unless there is horse racing on. It used to be a station on the Somerset & Dorset Railway, of blessed memory. The Pines Express used to go that way.
