Alternative theories are available.

Scientists are primarily interested in... science, not politics. Politicians are people who are primarily interested in... politics.
How many politicians go on to rise to eminence in science? (You can say the same thing about loads of professions.)

Of course, exceptions prove the rule. ;)

52 posts (with regular levels of topic drift), and none yet has suggested any turnip recipe that inspires me to try it. Ho, hum.

Ok here is my suggestion for a turnip recipe:

Stuffed turnip:

Hollow out your turnip, fill it with a mixture of mince, onions, tomatoes and some of your favourite herbs. Bake in the oven for 45 minutes at 180c or Gas Mark 6.

Remove from oven, eat stuffing, discard turnip. Delicious!

So there isn't any turnip in your turnip recipe, because you have hollowed it out and discarded it? Very good! :D

it was a joke. Remember them?

I'm surprised you didn't dig out the thwack. I'm sure I got it from here in the dim and distant past. It was originally a joke 'marrow' recipe I adapted. Or it may have been from TMF.

Alternatively, forget all that hollowing out, faces and candles stuff, and just chuck it at another child?

Cut into batons, brushed with goose fat, and roast in the oven - an alternative to chips
