HYPTUS yahoo prices not updating since Monday

Hi,

Is anyone getting an error when they press the 'Get Yahoo Prices' button?

Mine worked fine until this Monday and since then I get an error. My thoughts are Yahoo have done a change to prevent us scrapping the data as per the end of last year.

I'm using the Excel version on Windows XP which as I say worked OK last week.

Error:-
Run-time error '-2146893018 (80090326)';
The message received was unexpected or badly formatted.

Could you just confirm which release of HYPTUS you're using?

(Thought I'd ask so as to save time....)

Which Excel version? The latest is version 11.52, though that has no code changes from the previous 11.51, apparently.

My version b-f got Yahoo prices OK today in Libre Office.

I'm using v11.52 i.e.

hyp_top-up_spreadsheet_-_v11.52.xls

and I get the same error if I download the base version of it i.e. with just BP in it.

I'm using Excel 2010, it also says 'Version 12.0.6106.5005 Part of Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010'

Are you running HYPTUSS at work, via a server?

The error message is known and apparently caused by Microsoft Forefront Threat Management Gateway (TMG) 2010
https://support.microsoft.com/ms-my/hel ... -that-requ

I know nothing about Forefront but it does sound like the kind of thing used in a business environment.

Have you tried HYPTUSS on a home PC independent of an office environment?

Hi,

I am indeed running from a works computer. I don't actually have my own.

I have access to a Win 7/Excel 2013 machine as well (again at work) and the same spreadsheet updates fine.

So I guess something has happened over the weekend to beef up Windows XP security.

oh well at least it isn't yahoo pulling the plug on the price scrap.

Thanks for your help

Hi Smokey,

There's been an issue with running the Yahoo price scrape on XP boxes since earlier in the week.

I've done some investigating, and suspect that it's something to do with the XP HTTPS TLS implementation via the HTTP call, and to be quite honest, it doesn't look to be something we can fix too easily at the moment, if at all.

Of course, if anyone knows different, and can help with this problem, then I'm all ears!

I appreciate your issue, as it's affected me to the point where I think I'm actually going to have to retire my own trusty XP workhorse, and move over 100% to my Windows 7 box, which is going to be a painful exercise for me, but ultimately worth it.

I have been actively putting this day off for some considerable time, but I do think this is it....

XP is the only Window's version affected by this problem, so owners of more recent flavours of Windows won't be affected.

Cheers,

Itsallaguess

You could use Puppy Linux, OpenOffice and keep the Savefile on a usb stick. Puppy is not installed on the computer; it runs entirely in ram. The OS remains on the cd. For a P4,Puppy Wary is a good choice. its surprising what can be done fast in only 256mb of ram! It boots in less than 15s on my old computer - much faster than windows!

I've not used OO as it needs 500mb of ram. I use Gnumeric as a spreadsheet; it loads very fast and is adequate for my needs (looking at tabular data). This thread may help with OO

The installation instructions do look rather daunting!
