Google finance now completely useless, alternatives?

Post by andyalan10 »

So far as I can see google have now fully transitioned to their new pages, and we seem to have lost:-

Trading volume information
Dividend history on the price charts
Company specific news (although much of it was auto-generated TA tripe it was a good source to see broker updates).
Ability to compare with other shares on the main tab
Getting UK shares first when typing in a code, even on google.co.uk

For me that is about 80% of the useful information they used to provide gone.

Does anybody know of a source for real time share prices, with volume, and ideally dividend history?

Investing.com looks promising for volume, news, not sure if real time, can look this week.

Anything else?

Thanks

Andy

Try Morningstar for today's volume and dividend history
http://www.morningstar.com/stocks/XLON/SBRY/quote.html

WebFG (DigitalLook as was) for charts with volume...
https://uk.webfg.com/equity/Sainsbury_J/charts
...and clicking on their Analytics chart takes you to the DigitalLook Charting page to make comparisons.

All the old google finance data is still there. What they have done is change where you are sent if you search or use an existing bookmark.
If you look in your internet history and look for a day when the old page still worked for you you can select that and open the old style page with all the data still there.

I can verify that this still works as of this morning.

Thank you both, last few times I had accessed google, on various devices I'd only got the new layout. I suspect at some point they will switch off the old layout. Hadn't realised Digital Look wasn't DL any more.

Just a rebranding exercise, DL is owned by WebFG.
We are delighted to announce the launch of our new website, uk.webfg.com, where you will find all the market data and news already available on Digitallook.com, along with many new features and content. During this transition phase, the news and data pages on Digitallook.com will begin to redirect you towards the new website....

This doesn't have all that you ask (I suspect nothing does), but I do find it a good site with a lot of info on one page, especially dividend and results history: http://www.investorease.com/company.php ... e&epic=SSE

Using internet history to link to the older style page for google finance has now stopped working as of this afternoon.

I used to use Digital Look, but after their recent update I switched to This is Money which I find very good.

Closest I've found so far: https://uk.investing.com/markets/ - if you sign up for a free account you can upload portfolios etc.
Also the BBC page might do for a quick overview of what's happening: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business/mark ... /overview/

I have to agree with the originator of this thread. Thought it was just me! Guess they are going the route of MS in mending what is not broken.

The only thing left is that they still seem to offer latest prices. I have a program that monitors some shares and gives the bid/offer, trapped from ADVFN and thus delayed by about 15 mins or so. When things are getting exciting on some particular share, I launch a different program that monitors a specific stock via Google Finance and thus in real time.

That is about the only useful thing left.

Apparently Investorease will close in May
https://www.sharesoc.org/blog/company-n ... ase-close/
I really li8ked the site - simple, fast loading, excellent graphs, no ads., no javascript, comprhensive - the only thing missing was consensus forecasts
For a market overview I like
https://uk.advfn.com/world/uk
And for news
https://uk.advfn.com/news/headlines
All with javascript turned off (of course)

DRAT! It's a useful site, though missing ETFs, sadly.

I think that you'll fine that MoneyAM http://www.moneyam.com gives all the information that you are looking for.

To get live share prices you need to register for their free account http://www.moneyam.com/register/

There is dividend history, but it's not available on the charts (at least I haven't found a way to add it).

It is also very easy to pull data into an Excel spreadsheet using web queries as they use data tables.

I hope that helps.
