I'm surprised none here have mentioned this yet.

I took a shot at these guys NYSE:CCJ (Cameco) back in December at just over $21. I've just topped up again at $28.1. https://www.cameco.com/about.

There's also the English LSE:YCA (Yellow cake) but I missed the rush on that one so to speak. YCA are an interesting one, they aren't a miner. They just hold a fixed quantity of U. Hence enabling the investor to take a view on the spot price. As such YCA have only two employees, both work at home, a very light operation!

I've been of view for a while now, that new investment in nukes will be necessary to deal with bridging the gaps in green energy provision.

I took a punt on uranium more than a decade ago. My timing was all wrong. I bought CCJ also - think it was around $30 when I bought it and I bailed down at around $20.

It is interesting because it is a metal that trades more like an energy share.

Incidentally there are a few low-cost companies like Yellowcake that trade and hold metals but do not mine them, thereby avoiding the messy, expensive and risky part. Other examples are Wheaton Precious Metals (WPM) for silver and Franco-Nevada (FRN) for gold.

U seems to have become more en vogue, post the Ukraine invasion, unsurprisingly. The position I hold is very small, and I'll probably keep like that. Besides it's quite an unusual commodity, in that only a small amount of the stuff once purified is ever actually moved around.

But there is an exchange-traded futures market for uranium, on NYMEX. The average investor probably does not want to trade the spot market for uranium, unless you are in a position to take delivery!

Same goes for almost any other commodity.

On a slightly different note, although the quantities involved probably won't be that big, presumably after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, perhaps several of the nuclear armed countries will decide to "revamp" their nuclear [expletive deleted].

Problem is when the sale gets better after you have bought.

Sure. And neither you nor I can predict that eventuality. But you need zero powers of prediction to observe today's price is less than yesterday's.

I do care what Buffett says. If someone can demonstrably "do something well", I believe that at times, it's instructive to understand why.
