Comparisons sites for savings accounts

Post by Fluke »

Hi folks,

I'm in the market for a 30-60 day notice savings account for a lump sum and I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the most reliable comparison sites. I just don't know which ones, if any, to trust anymore.

Equally if you can offer up any suggestions I'd like to hear.

Thanks.

I tend to look at moneysaving expert to keep an eye on what's happening.

It seems to be to be clear and transparent.

Anyone have a reason to avoid them?

I use moneysaving expert and also moneysupermarket- the latter do take sponsorship but you can indicate if you want to see all deals, not just those that are available directly through the site. They usually agree pretty well, MSE is a bit more focused with just the best deal in each category while MSM has all the deals.

Moneysavingexpert and money supermarket are aways at the top of the search page, I'd read somewhere that one or both of them took sponsorship, I'll check out that 'all deals' thing - thanks.

Savingschampion.co.uk is not one I'd heard of. The link throws up a few interesting options, there's a 30 day account with Charter Savings bank offering 1.51%, not bad compared to some I've seen.

There was a bank recently (the name escapes me) based in Dubai I think, offering high interest on savings accounts, it appeared high on the list in a lot of the comparison sites but went bust or had to cease trading (I can't quite remember the story), taking savers cash with them. I mention this because quite a few of the banks in the current lists are not ones I've heard of, Charter Savings bank for instance as mentioned above.

Thanks all I'll continue my search.

Make sure you untick the box “show accounts with provider links first”

It’s probably a good idea to look at several and then follow up on the provider website.
I have also taken to googling unfamiliar providers to find out a bit about their business model and whether it looks like a business I’d rather avoid...

I must say that I have had good success over the years using Savings Champion for best buys in cash savings accounts. I always choose providers which are members of the FSCS scheme which compensates up to 85k in the event of a default.

Thanks Paul, once I'd unticked the box and applied the 30 and 60 day filters Charter Savings bank rose to the top, it is also listed high on which.co.uk's site, so this is one I will be following up I think.

Before I unticked the box a middle-eastern bank was at the top of the list (BLME), when I unticked it that changed. It took a few minutes for the penny to drop that if there is a provider link sponsorship has been received. I'm I the only one in the room who didn't twig that?

Well this has been useful - thanks!
